This resource explores how women’s economic empowerment can reduce the risk of modern slavery while also creating a positive impact for women. It examines the drivers of modern slavery that are context and identity specific and explains how businesses can apply lessons from women’s economic empowerment work to prevent modern slavery at work. The resource focuses specifically on forced and bonded labour and trafficking.

This resource examines gaps in current and historic measurement of women’s economic empowerment (WEE) and identifies core indicators, principles and recommendations for effective and consistent measurement. It explains how to choose measurement criteria depending on the context and project type, and looks at women’s control and access to work and assets.

The resource analyses international best practice in measuring women’s economic empowerment and provides practical recommendations on how to conduct measurement effectively and consistently.

Mapping best practice guidelines in working with civil society organisations

This resource from the Knowledge, Evidence and Learning for Development (K4D) Helpdesk provides information on how government departments can work with civil society organisations in the delivery of international aid. It recommends ways of working which support democracy and advance the rights of marginalised and excluded people. 

Intersectionality and safeguarding for civil society organisations working in humanitarian or development settings

This resource explains what intersectionality is and why it is important to organisations working in humanitarian and development contexts. It also provides advice on how to integrate an intersectional approach into safeguarding work.  

The resource is available in a range of languages, including French, Swahili, and Arabic. An infographic is also available. 

International financial institutions and women’s economic empowerment: an evidence review

This resource looks at how different international financial institutions (IFIs) frame and approach working on women’s economic empowerment, and the impact of this in practice. It provides information on what is effective in women’s economic empowerment and the challenges that can arise. The resource provides recommendations on how the World Bank and other IFIs can achieve transformative outcomes in relation to economic opportunities and employment for women.

Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative conference 2022: a political declaration on conflict-related sexual violence

This resource is the political declaration made by over 50 countries and the UN at the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) Conference held in London in 2022. It sets out the joint action they will take to end sexual violence in conflict, including by strengthening the global response and preventing conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) from occurring by addressing the drivers of violence.

The inclusive workplaces toolkit

This resource shows employers how to make their workplaces inclusive of people with intellectual disabilities. It includes clear guidance on accessible recruitment, hiring, communication at work, and organisational policies. It provides templates and useful resources for employers. 

The resource was developed in consultation with employers and people with intellectual disabilities. It is a practical tool for employers on how to create workplaces that are fully inclusive of people with intellectual disabilities.
