International financial institutions and women’s economic empowerment: an evidence review

This resource looks at how different international financial institutions (IFIs) frame and approach working on women’s economic empowerment, and the impact of this in practice. It provides information on what is effective in women’s economic empowerment and the challenges that can arise. The resource provides recommendations on how the World Bank and other IFIs can achieve transformative outcomes in relation to economic opportunities and employment for women. This includes recommendations on resourcing, use of evidence and data, policy engagement and understanding of country and context-level dynamics.
