Modern slavery and women’s economic empowerment: discussion document

This resource explores how women’s economic empowerment can reduce the risk of modern slavery while also creating a positive impact for women. It examines the drivers of modern slavery that are context and identity specific and explains how businesses can apply lessons from women’s economic empowerment work to prevent modern slavery at work. The resource focuses specifically on forced and bonded labour and trafficking.

The resource provides a framework to analyse risk factors to help companies that want to learn about the status of women at work. It outlines the risks women can face at work and provides recommendations on how companies can improve their practices to reduce these risks while also empowering women at work.

The resource uses case studies from multiple countries  and makes recommendations for progressive practices and policies.
