Feminist organisations and girls’ education: harnessing the power of women’s rights organisations to support educational outcomes for girls

This think piece explores the role of women’s rights organisations (WROs) in creating enabling environments for girls’ education and challenging harmful gender norms. It examines the constraints WROs faced and how they were overcome, their impact on education outcomes, and the factors that contributed to their success.

The paper highlights how WROs contribute to transforming gender norms and expanding opportunities for marginalised girls in low-income contexts and reflects on lessons learned from integrating feminist partnerships into large-scale education programmes. It prompts broader questions about the role of women’s rights organisations within education and how both non-state actors and ministries of education can better include them.
