Women, peace and security, conflict- related sexual violence and defence

The UK Government has committed to preventing and responding to conflict-related sexual violence and sets out the actions it will take in the UK women, peace and security national action plan 2023-2027.

This resource addresses the gap in research on how militaries can engage on conflict-related sexual violence outside of UN peacekeeping missions. It presents findings on opportunities and challenges for Defence engagement. It reviews past and present UK Defence practice, surveys good practice from other contexts to identify possible lessons for UK Defence, looks at risks and limitations, and sets out recommendations for action.
