Political empowerment of women, girls and LGBTQ+ people: post-conflict opportunities

This resource from the Knowledge, evidence and learning for development (K4D) programme looks at the opportunities for political empowerment created during and after conflict for women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) people. It also looks at the challenges created in these settings.

The resource examines how norms change in and after conflict, and what new spaces can be created through humanitarian or development work. It also examines political activism during and after conflict and provides information on women’s and LGBTQ+ people’s access to justice and their involvement in peace processes. The resource considers how intersecting oppressions can create differing degrees of empowerment for different LGBTQ+ people.
