Murad Code: the global code of conduct for gathering and using information about systematic and conflict-related sexual violence

This resource is the Murad Code which brings together existing minimum standards for the safe and ethical collection and use of information from survivors of systematic and conflict-related sexual violence (SCRSV). It outlines how survivors of violence can be harmed through improper information collection and provides guidance on how to mitigate the risks of causing harm.

The Code was developed through an extensive global process, including survivors at every stage. It is for everyone who may work with survivors: governments, organisations and individuals who document, investigate, report on research, or in some way gather and use information on sexual violence. It is framed in the collective “we” to emphasise voluntary commitment to more effective survivor-centred practices.

This resource is a living document which will be reviewed periodically to ensure it continues to reflect minimum standards for the safe, effective and ethical gathering of information about SCRSV. It is available in Arabic, Sorani Kurdish, French, Spanish, Bosnian, Ukrainian, Swahili, Tigrinya, Amharic, Burmese and Nepali.
