This is a participatory toolkit for understanding unpaid care work and its distribution within local communities and families. Together, these tools provide a way of ascertaining and capturing research participants’ understanding of women’s unpaid care work. These participatory tools were developed during the Balancing Care Work and Paid Work project, part of the Growth of Economic Opportunities for Women (GROW) programme, which gathered data in 16 sites across India, Nepal, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The tools were designed for two main purposes: to understand community views and social norms around unpaid care work, and to raise awareness about the care burdens women face. While the tools can be used flexibly, using the full set helps build a deeper understanding of how unpaid care is shared and how it affects caregivers' lives.
